Assembly Bill 1295 that been passed in the United States requires the California Community Colleges together with the California State University to improve and continually implement the transfer pathway between this Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) programs and as well the Bachelor’s of Science Nursing (BSN) program in order to eliminate the duplicate course work programs. In this CSU bachelor’s degree level, there is already a quite standardization for its recognition the ADN content. Since, lacking of common nursing transfer pathway can lead several nursing learners to take into account the duplicative and even unnecessary course work programs that continually prolong the degree of finishing it and increases the educational expenditures costs of both the learners and the State.
Since, to the fact that it takes about two to three years for the ADN graduates be able to earn a Bachelor of Science Nursing or BSN. With that, about 70 percent of nurses in California have already become the products of ADN programs. These unnecessary barriers have already act as an disincentive barriers for several nurses who still wants to continue their educational learning in order to earn a BSN. California got are in need of huge numbers of nurses that are BSN degree holder in order to fill up the public health nursing positions and in order for several nursing students be able to continue completing their Master’s Degree in Nursing education that will allow them to become a nursing faculty both in the community college and even in the CSU level. At this time, about only 20 percent of nurses with ADN degree be able to forego earning a BSN and with this bill, it will be able to expand the pipeline of several highly trained nurses.
Aside of these aspects, another important portion of dealing towards the critical nursing shortage is to increase the numbers of faculty that could support of teaching several nursing learners. With the presence of this bill, it wills these aspects possible. As well, it will provide smooth transition process and even minimize the duplication of coursework program that already been completed in the community college that will support in increasing the numbers of BSN graduates for the employment in the community and for nursing career education and profession.
