Nurses Continuing Education Program Launched

To strengthen the nursing profession in the US, various universities have also improved the educational system as well as updated programs and policies as far as the continuing education of students and professionals involve in the program.

As this developed, nursing faculty members of Misericordia University conducted seminars to help professional nurses understand the new mandatory state regulations on continuing education. The activity was conducted for the members of the Pennsylvania State Nursing Association (PSNA).

Patrick Kenny, PSNA president, presented the program dubbed as ‘The 1,2,3’s of Mandatory Continuing Education,” to be able to provide insights in the various modalities professional nurses should complete to accomplish the required 30-hour for licensure examinations. The event was reportedly attended by at least 55 registered nurses who also participated actively during the conduct of the seminar by asking questions related to the subject matter. The said seminar allowed the PSNA-member nurses to receive at least 1.5 units for continuing education program. The participants came from various nursing groups such as Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre Medical Center, Wyoming Valley Health Care System, John Heinz Institute of Rehabilitative Medicine, Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center and the Veterans Administration Medical Center.

The PSNA, representing 205,000 professional nurses, is a non-profit group in Pennsylvania. It exists to develop and advance the nursing profession through practice, advocacy and legislation. Career education to the organization’s members is also among its programs for development.

Misericordia University offers various courses for the undergraduates that include associate and diploma. It is also strengthening its programs to be ready for the new millennium as well as in the 21st century nursing education programs.

Just recently, there were reports of the United States lack of more US citizens that are nursing graduates. In fact, the US government has to hire registered nurses from around the world to augment the demand for more nurses in various hospitals, nursing home facilities, private clinics and other health care facilities in the entire country.
