Nursing Professionals Honored

To recognize the excellent contributions of professional nurses the Nursing Spectrum Excellence Awards recently gave out awards honoring their contributions to society. The awardees were chosen in various categories where they have demonstrated excellent participation and contributions benefitting the nursing professional as well as college student. The winners were the following:

Anne R. Bavier, RN, PhD, FAAN Ms Anne Bavier is a professor and dean of the University of Connecticut.

It was during her stay as assistant dean of the nursing department that she had successfully helped facilitate the funding for the nursing’s first endowed professorship in the total amount of $5 Million, the biggest gift ever. Ms. Bavier also made faculty publications great by making it quadrupled, facilitated the increased school grant to 50 percent and also increased the funds for the disadvantaged nursing students of the school. The National Institutes of Health and Agency for Health Care Policy and Research also recognized her valuable contribution on women’s health programs and research she made.
Joseph S. Blansfield, RN, MS, ANP-BC Mr. Joseph Blansfield is the Trauma program manager of Boston Medical Center. He is also a deputy commander of the 399th Combat Support Hospital based in Iraq. During his 18 months active service in Iraq, Blansfield led two hospitals to support combat victims. Blansfield and his group treated soldiers and civilians. It doesn’t matter whether the wounded patients are US soldiers or Iraqi patients.

Donna J. Perry, RN, PhD Cited for community service, Ms. Donna Perry is an associate nurse scientist as well as associate director of the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Perry’s great contribution was recorded when she had successfully facilitated the exchange program for 400 nursing professionals in 30 countries. She had also developed a good and excellent nursing service for a specialized pediatric hospital in Iraq. The facility was the first in Iraq. Just like other courses the nursing career online has also been among the major priorities of Ms. Perry.

Ann Vale, RN, MSN, CAN-BC Ms. Ann Vale is a Nurse Manager at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut. Her staff all said she is great leader in the group who always leads by example. During her stay as manager she had displayed excellent leadership in continued learning for the nurses, mentoring and collaboration. All her efforts led to strong teamwork of her team of health professionals.

Other professional nurses that were also cited were Marsha E. Fonteyn, nurse scientist; Cheryl Tatano Beck, board of trustees and distinguished professor of the School of Nursing at the University of Connecticut.
